Client Overview
The Friends of Richmond Park is a charitable organisation dedicated to conserving and protecting the natural environment of Richmond Park. For their "Year of the Tree" initiative, they sought to raise awareness of the park’s historic oak trees.
The Challenge
In 2019, they commissioned artist Mark Frith to create a portrait of the Royal Oak. They required a limited edition of 100 fine art prints and a smaller open-edition reproduction, as well as a framed facsimile to hang in Pembroke Lodge.
The Solution
Using our high-resolution camera scanning setup, we captured the intricate details of the original 90 x 72 cm artwork. The goal was to produce fine art prints that faithfully represented the original, while also creating a smaller open edition with added handwritten details.
The Process
- Scanning and Proofing:
The artwork was scanned with lighting adjustments to minimise background texture. Proofs on Hahnemühle German Etching 310gsm were refined to perfectly match the original. - Open Edition Preparation:
A smaller edition was printed on cotton based Deluxe Smooth Matt Paper 270gsm, incorporating a handwritten title and signature scanned from the artist’s originals. - Framing and Distribution:
Mark Frith selected a moulding for framing the original and the reproduction. Limited edition prints were signed, numbered, and securely packed for dispatch.
The Result
The limited edition prints sold out quickly, with proceeds supporting the Friends of Richmond Park. A framed reproduction of the Royal Oak continues to hang in Pembroke Lodge. Sir David Attenborough, a patron of the charity, praised the reproduction during a private meeting with the artist.
